Dearborn Virtual K-12

Semester 2 transfer information

In an effort to meet the needs of our families, Dearborn Public Schools will conduct an open enrollment/transfer window for families wishing to return their children to in-person learning OR enroll in Dearborn Public Schools Virtual K-12 for the second semester of the 2024-2025 school year.  The deadline to request this change is December 1, 2024.

How do I request consideration for transferring my child into DPS Virtual K-12 for the second semester?

Please use the online Request to Transfer Into Virtual K-12 form to ask for a transfer to Dearborn Public Schools Virtual K-12 FOR THE SECOND SEMESTER of the 2024-2025 school year.  This form must be submitted by December 1, 2024.

IF YOU ARE NEW TO THE DISTRICT, YOU MUST GO TO STUDENT SERVICES TO COMPLETE ENROLLMENT. Enrollment can be started online at www.dearbornschools.org/enroll. DPS Virtual K-12 accepts students in kindergarten through high school from across Wayne County. Note, the school is not offering kindergarten this year due to lack of enrollment.

Transferring to DPS Virtual K-12 means your child will no longer attend his or her in-person home school starting in the second semester of 2024-2025.

Students in kindergarten through eighth grade are taught by Dearborn Public Schools staff and attend a combination of remote, live lessons on Zoom and asynchronous time supported with remote learning labs and tutoring.  High school students attend a remote learning lab each day and complete coursework via an online, asynchronous learning platform.  Highly-qualified, district staff will support students during learning labs.

Before requesting a transfer into Virtual K-12, please review the student, parent and staff expectations so you have a better understanding of how the program operates.

To be successful in virtual learning, students need an extra level of independence and self-discipline. They need to be able to complete their work with less supervision, and they need to be able to speak up and ask questions when they need help or clarification from the teacher. Not all students are well-suited for this style of learning.  Parents should carefully consider the unique qualities of their child when considering if virtual school is right for them.  Parents also should understand that putting their child in a virtual school may mean the parent needs to assist more to make sure students do their work on time, stay focused on their classwork, and interact with their teachers.  State and federal testing AND final exams for grades 6-12 are required in-person events.

How do I request consideration for transferring my child from DPS Virtual K-12 back to their in-person neighborhood school for the second semester?
